Expanding Beyond EVMs

For some time now, our team has been exploring opportunities to expand beyond EVM chains, waiting for the right moment and partner to make the leap. After multiple discussions with the Supra chain team, we are confident that their Move language blockchain offers an ideal platform for this expansion and would like to move forward with a proposal to deploy on Supra.

Usually our new iChain DIP votes allow DERI holders to pick their favorite blockchain among a few, to have Deri deployed on. Because deploying on Supra requires more development time and because it would mark Deri’s first expansion to a non-EVM blockchain, this time we would like to submit a special “Yes/No” DIP vote to deploy (or not) on Supra and decide on Deri’s venture into new ecosystems.

What is Supra

Supra is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed with composability as a core feature. Its architecture enables shared liquidity, rapid deployment, and cost-effective transactions, boasting sub-second consensus finality and a proven throughput of up to 500,000 TPS.

The platform is MultiVM-compatible, allowing developers to deploy dApps using diverse programming languages, including Move, Solidity (EVM), or Rust (Solana).

With a focus on vertical integration, Supra incorporates native oracle services, cross-chain messaging systems, and built-in automation tools.

How would Deri deploy on Supra

While deploying on Supra via its EVM compatibility is an option, we aim to go beyond the EVM ecosystem by leveraging Move-based smart contracts to expand our capabilities into new blockchain environments.

To achieve this, we plan to adapt our existing EVM interface codebase (you can read more about Deri’s iChain architecture here: https://docs.deri.io/how-it-works/architecture) into the Move language. Additionally, our messaging and settlement layers will undergo minor updates to ensure seamless compatibility with Supra.

Why we would like to deploy there

To start, the Supra team’s enthusiasm for our collaboration is evident. They are actively supporting our transition by connecting us with experienced development teams, organizing events, coordinating co-marketing initiatives, and providing other essential resources to ensure our success.

On top of that, the derivatives market within the Supra ecosystem is still relatively untapped, offering us a unique competitive advantage as one of the first movers in this space.

Lastly, diversifying our codebase to support additional programming languages will position us to take full advantage of the growing Move ecosystem, which includes prominent actors like Sui and Aptos. This adaptability will open doors to further innovation and growth opportunities across multiple blockchain ecosystems.

Vote & Timeline

In the next few days, we intend to submit a governance proposal (DIP) to approve the deployment of Deri on Supra. The development process is estimated to take six to eight weeks, setting the stage for a potential launch around February or early March.

Typically, our DIP votes allow users to select their preferred blockchain for Deri’s next deployment, with the process often completed within a few days. However, this initiative involves a more extensive development timeline, prompting us to propose a Supra-specific DIP vote in the coming days.

We are thrilled about the prospect of expanding Deri beyond EVM chains and unlocking the opportunities that Supra can bring to our protocol. We hope the community shares our excitement and supports this proposal, enabling Deri to continue its growth and innovation in web3.
